Thank You

To all of those who contributed to the creation of the zine, from the initial idea to the final realisation - THANK YOU!

The Lockdown Zine could not have been created without the support of our friends and comrades, too many to mention but here are a few for which we are thankful: PCS Culture Group, Clara Paillard, Gareth Spencer, Elspeth Walker, Rebecca Sainsot, Natasha Trotman, Sandra Shakespeare, PCS Culture BAME members, Museum Detox and all the contributing artists from across the UK.

Julia Watson

I’m Julia, an artist currently based in the South West of England. After graduating from Falmouth University in BA Drawing in 2019, I undertook a year long residency with Totnes Art and Design Foundation Course but it was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic. My work has navigated architectural memory and implication, tracing liminal lines throughout perceived space, using mainly graphite and charcoal on a large scale. It adapts to my limitations, swelling to fill space or barely grazing the sides of an A4 sheet. I’m currently producing work during the lockdown from my Devon home.

Larry Walker-Tonks

Larry_WalkerTonks_Avatar_II.jpg

Larry Walker-Tonks began his on-going GRUNDER series during his MA at the University of Salford after growing tired of feeling that his body was treated as a commodity by other users on dating apps. Walker-Tonks’ GRUNDER series reflects upon how we present ourselves online; how we use dating apps like Grindr and Tinder; the consequences of a highly sexualised western culture; and how new-found online anonymity has torn down the boundaries
between what is and is not acceptable public discourse, which has resulted in an accepted laddish camaraderie and ‘send nudes’ culture in the Facebook age.

Lewis

Picture1.png

I received my first camera at the age of six. Since the Arts Council project “Culture of our times (nature vs nurture) 2006, the focus of my artistic practise has been “Identity” and “Environment”.  I feel these themes that ask “who we are” “how do we live and interact with our environment” are an important foundation for any form of artistic practise. However, it is not my job to hand a view all the answers in my images and leave them open to interpretation therefore giving the viewer room to bring their own experiences to the work.
